FSS PROGRAM
The Family Self-Sufficiency, also known as FSS, helps families in public housing or with Housing Choice Vouchers become financially independent. After completing the program, they can use those savings to reach their goals, like buying a home or starting a business.
The FSS Program helps people in subsidized housing become financially independent. You’ll work with a program coordinator to set goals, like getting a better job or paying off debt. As your income grows, the extra rent you would normally pay is saved in a special account for you. When you finish the program, you get that money to use however you need.
The program is specifically for individuals or families receiving housing assistance through the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) or Public Housing programs. To participate, individuals must agree to sign a Contract of Participation, commit to working toward financial independence, and meet program requirements. While anyone in these housing programs can apply, space may be limited.
The escrow account savings can be used for a variety of purposes to support long-term self-sufficiency. Participants often use the funds for education expenses, starting a business, purchasing a home, paying off debt, or other personal financial goals. The money can only be accessed after completing the program and meeting all requirements.
To join, reach out to the Central Falls Housing Authority. You’ll need to complete an application, meet with the program coordinator, and sign a Contract of Participation outlining your goals and commitments. The coordinator will work with you throughout the program to ensure you’re on track to achieve your objectives.
